We look forward to welcoming you to the Institute of Fire Department of North Rhine-Westphalia (IdF NRW). We – with over 210 employees and around 18,000 participants annually, are the largest training and further education institution for fire department managers in Germany.<\/p>\n
According to our motto \u201cWe like to learn for your life\u201d, our participants include not only fire brigade members, but also members of the various crisis teams. Because only together can we effectively overcome all the challenges of the future!<\/p>\n
Our competence centers in the areas of research, digital radio, procurement & technology and the media center ensure interdisciplinary support for the fire departments and guarantee that we recognize future trends and take them into account in our work.<\/p>\n

\nERCIS Competence Center for Crisis Management (C\u00b3M)<\/h4>\n
The\u00a0Competence Center for Crisis Management\u00a0(C\u00b3M), founded at the end of the year 2013, integrates the research efforts of the ERCIS network in the domain of crisis management and humanitarian logistics. The main objective is to identify relevant challenges and gaps in current practices of humanitarian organizations and to find adequate solutions in the area of information systems and supply chain management research.\u00a0C\u00b3M integrates a collaborating network of humanitarian logistics organizations, innovative information systems and renowned research groups on crisis management and humanitarian logistics.<\/p>\n
C\u00b3M investigates the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for logistics and supply chain management in crisis situations. Logistics is the main driver in order to deliver the right relief items and services as fast and appropriately as possible in order to meet the needs of the disaster-affected population. The disaster relief environment sets specific requirements for the use of ICT as an enabler of disaster management. Within the context of supporting the effectiveness of logistics in humanitarian operations, the activities of C\u00b3M primarily aim at improving the modeling, analysis, simulation and decision support of humanitarian logistics processes as well as the\u00a0evaluation and design of of appropriate information systems.<\/p>\n
